In our first decade, LHG established a museum and research History Center in the 1911 Carnegie Library Building. The Livermore Area Recreation and Parks District (LARPD) maintains the building and the City maintains the Carnegie Park.
We collected artifacts, archives and photos documenting the area heritage from early native peoples, through Spanish and Mexican periods leading to the founding of the town in 1869. However, the curated collection mostly focuses on the early development of the city. It includes originals and microfilms of newspapers from the city’s first hundred years, aided by a comprehensive index manually created by volunteers.
The History Center hosts a curated library of Tri-Valley-specifc reference books, extensive area maps, original property tax logs, oral histories and over 5,000 historic photos. We respond to research requests from schools, businesses and individual residents.
