LIVERMORE HISTORYMOBILE

HistoryMobile

Our former original Historymobile was created by artist Tilli Calhoun and newspaperman Barry Schrader. Our current second-generation Historymobile (two years in the making and dedicated May 2013) sports wall-sized murals by local muralist, Vera Lowdermilk.

The mural on the driver's side features a spring scene of a steam locomotive, the Livermore Depot, and wild flowers. The passenger side mural features a summer/fall scene of the Livermore Rodeo, a vineyard, and the Ravenswood historic site. Local pinstriper Herb Martinez did the lettering. A Rotarian Foundation of Livermore grant made the murals possible.

Our original third grade history walking tours led to a cooperative effort with Livermore schools. Together, we developed a well-researched local history curriculum used by all third grade teachers. This curriculum is supported by annual visits of the HistoryMobile, as scheduled by Nancy Mulligan and led by volunteer docents knowledgeable in local history.

Nancy Mulligan, Historymobile coordinator, points out the scale model of the former Livermore Totem pole
as part of the many hands-on displays within this traveling museum.
(The pole had no native totem culture provenance but was a marketing tool that a store later gave to the City.
Several carved icons represent Livemore, including: Robert Livermore, the Vineyards, and the Nuclear Labs.)

The HistoryMobile also brings its exhibits to family events, for all ages, such as some Open House events at the
Hagemann Ranch and annually during the Ice Cream Social at Ravenswood Historic Park.
